5 Week Old iMac Broken, Again

Remember my favorite friends at the Apple Store at Flatiron Crossing? The ones who told me a bunch of incorrect things about the iMac and its software when selling it to me, who sold me a computer with a bad hard drive, who gave me attitude when I returned it for repair, who told me I should change the way I do things rather than make the computer work for me, and who theoretically fixed my broken computer? They broke it in the process of "repairing" it. Not only were they a day late in getting it fixed, according to an AppleCare Support diagnosis they either didn't replace my hardware sensor as they should when they replaced the hard drive, or they didn't hook it back up securely. There's a small chance that they simply replaced the bad hard drive with a hard drive that has a bad sensor, but that's "unlikely".

One good piece of news I can confirm for people living in northern Colorado - unbeknownst to the majority of AppleCare support folks, as helpful as they are, there is indeed an Authorized Apple Service Center (reseller too) in Fort Collins, Colorado. They're The Mac Shack, at 157 N College, on the west side between Mountain and Laporte Aves. I'll report back on their service when I get my iMac back from them. No more trucking all the way to Boulder or Broomfield! http://www.themacshack.net/

One other good piece of news I can in all honesty credit Apple with: the box the iMac comes in is nice and sturdy, and has withstood all this traveling around northern Colorado. Maybe that's what the $2000 was for, the hardware is crap but at least you can cart it around in a sturdy box to get it repaired frequently!

Like the box..

Well at least you got a good box out of it!!! The other good thing...your experience has made me less interested in the iMac!! It is kind of weird since Mom and Sandy never had a problem..Maybe you ended up with the bad egg, the bad chicken that made it, broke it when "repairing" it, and the rooster in customer service that first told you there was no repair shop authorized in fixing it in FC! At least you still have the PC...Though I don't recommend Windows 7 and definately NOT MS Office 7!!! Lots of "improvements" ie. make you seriously regret upgrading..their software. I am in the process of entirely relearning the new Access..already relearned Word (somewhat) and Excel..after all this fun..I get to do the rest of the suite.. arrgggh. Oh and then.. each computer you want to "upgrade" will cost you in the area of $300 a computer (which would be why we have 3 computers with different versions of OS 7 and /or Office 7)...and MS is about to come out with Office 2010 in the next year or so..so to remain current..probably cost an addional $100 or more.....

That was my thinking...

That was my thinking... if I had to learn a new OS and buy new software for a new computer (Win7) this was as good a time as any to switch to a Mac. I *thought* it would be more likely to be more stable than Windows 7. If I'd had any idea it was going to give me this much grief, I don't know that I would have bothered. Essentially, it's a fun toy with good video editing capabilities, but that's really the only reason I "needed" it. I'm still toying with the idea of returning it to Apple and demanding my money back.

come spend a day

Come spend a day on Win. 7 and using office 7...I haven't had any crash issues, but never had with the Toshiba laptop either..at least not until I loaded 7 on it. Then it did crash maybe 10 times before we came to an understanding.. since then it has been meek and mild with me.. Office on the other hand definately still has the upper hand..but I refuse to lose! It just hasn't gotten the message yet ;) it will trust me...
